What is the weather like in Sri Lanka in February?

February is one of the best months to visit Sri Lanka for weather. The west and south coasts (Negombo, Colombo, Galle, Mirissa) are typically hot, dry, and sunny, with daytime temperatures around 30–32°C (86–90°F) and relatively calm seas. The Cultural Triangle (Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa) is hotter and mostly dry, often reaching 32–34°C (90–93°F) in the afternoon, so early-morning sightseeing is more comfortable. In the hill country (Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Ella), days are cooler—usually 18–24°C (64–75°F)—with chilly nights, and light afternoon showers or mist are possible. The east coast is still recovering from its monsoon season and is generally not at its best in February.
